Alastair & Lucy's Wedding - 20th Feb, Donington Park Farm
Ali & Lucy were a joy to work with and up for trying all my arty ideas! I approached this venue with a completely different frame of mind and decided not to do all the usual spots and try and find something different. The light on the day was quite harsh and contrasty with some dramatic cloud formations and even some blue sky too! unusual for this time of year in the UK!!
I think the different approach has really worked as I am so please with some of the new angles I tried, particularly the shots of Ali & Lucy on the spiral staircase, which wasn't easy for them to do, it was cold, windy, and a tight spot for the two of them to get up to and maneuvre once up there... but thier perseverence has really paid off.
I also love the shot of the guys walking back from the road with the harse backlight and the shadows thrown into the foreground of the shot, such drama!
My other fav and a shot I think is worth doing everytime at this venue, is the view over the countryside towards Breedon on the Hill from Isley Walton taken from the driveway of Donington Park Farm.
I am also particularly please with the first dance shots as the barn is quite litterally the Black hole of Calcutta, but using some on camera fill flash and a remote flash behind the Bride & Groom gives the dramatic backlight effect with some light spill onto the family and friends looking on in the background.
Best wishes to Ali & Lucy!
Steven
